Katherine Shaffer is Ziptastic winner

The Staff Employee Advisory Committee (SEAC) is pleased to announce the February Ziptastic award recipient – Katherine Shaffer of the College of Applied Science and Technology.

Katherine Shaffer and Dr. Stacy WillettHer career here began 17 years ago as a part-time secretary in the Department of Business Technology. Later, Shaffer moved to the Department of Public Service Technology (now the Department of Disaster Science and Emergency Services) as an administrative assistant. Shaffer also handles the administrative duties of the Police Academy and the Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials. She is the state examination proctor for the Training Center, which runs three police academies, three fires academies, and 10 to 15 advanced fire training classes per year.

Shaffer was nominated by Dr. Stacy Willett, professor of emergency management and homeland security in the Department of Disaster Sciences and Emergency Services.

“Kathy Shaffer is responsible for our department, as well as the police academy, and Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials,” wrote Willett. “These entities could not function without her hard work, attention to detail and diligence to push people to get things done. She is always a step ahead of everyone’s needs. Kathy is a fantastic University of Akron employee and good, valuable people should be recognized!”
